Bridge Engineer / Project Manager
Apply now if you want to drive meaningful innovation in the UK!
Welcome to GScan 👋 — we’re pioneering the future of non-destructive testing and structural health monitoring with the most advanced muon tomography technology on the market. Using naturally occurring cosmic rays (muons), the muonFLUX© technology can see inside critical infrastructure such as bridges, tunnels, and buildings, detecting hidden defects with unprecedented clarity.
Unlike traditional NDT methods, muon tomography penetrates deep through concrete and steel, even at large thicknesses. Our technology is the only solution capable of capturing particles that pass through every material, producing highly accurate 3D models with up to 30x greater resolution than current market standards. For asset owners, this enables proactive, evidence-based maintenance, safer decision-making, and major cost savings.
Our award-winning technology is steadily gaining international traction, with deployments on 10 in-service bridges and assets across England, Wales, Scotland, the Netherlands, Estonia, and Spain. We have been recognised in the UK as the top emerging innovation in NDT. Leading global engineering company, AtkinsRéalis, shared technology insights in this article.
🔹 GScan's locations: Estonia, the United Kingdom, and Germany.
🔹 Job location: Remote (Ideally based within London or the Wider South East for ease of project travel).
🔹 Job type: Full-time employment.
Join the team that’s transforming the future of sustainable infrastructure!
We’re looking for a bridge engineer who wants to do more than standard consultancy work. At GScan, you’ll help deliver real-world inspection and assessment projects using muon tomography, working across engineering, field deployment, analysis, and customer delivery.
You’ll assess structural use cases, plan projects and deployments, interpret results, and help shape how this technology is applied across bridges, tunnels, and possibly other critical assets. You’ll work closely with our hardware, field, and ML teams, and you’ll also help customers understand what the technology can do and how to use it well.
This role is a strong fit for someone with solid bridge engineering experience, project management skills, and an interest in practical site work, new technology, and cross-functional collaboration.
🚀 Your mission
Use your bridge engineering and project delivery experience to help customers tackle difficult structural problems with muonFLUX© technology, from feasibility through to results. At the same time, you’ll help improve how the technology is applied to real assets in the field.
How Will We Work Together?
You’ll join us in a remote-first setup, working comfortably from your home office anywhere within London or the Wider South East. For technology deployments at bridge sites, you will occasionally travel to customer locations, field deployments, or industry events, although the majority of collaboration is conducted online.
Who Will You Be Working With?
Reporting and Collaboration: You will collaborate closely with Rufus Foster (Technical Director, Lead Bridge Engineer) and with Märt Mägi (CTO, Co-founder), CEO Marek Helm, Madis Kiisk (R&D Manager, co-founder), Jüri Saarma (COO), and with Andres Nurme (Global Deployment Manager).
You will have the chance to collaborate with an interdisciplinary group of experts across the company, including structural engineers, particle physicists, hardware engineers, ML/AI specialists, and software developers.
☑️ Key responsibilities
Assess customer requirements and determine where muon tomography is a good fit for bridges, tunnels, and other structures
Lead projects from early feasibility through deployment, analysis, and final reporting
Plan site work and field deployments with the wider engineering team
Work with data and ML colleagues to define post-processing approaches and interpret results in an engineering context
Present findings clearly to customers and support them in understanding the technology and its practical value
Contribute to the development of new applications, workflows, and product improvements based on project experience
Support hardware and field engineering teams to solve practical challenges during deployment and delivery
☑️ What are we looking for?
Around 5 years’ experience in bridge, tunnel, or related structural engineering
Experience leading or managing engineering projects
3D modelling experience
Comfortable working with existing structures, site environments, and occasional field deployments
Strong English communication skills and confidence working with customers
Willingness to travel occasionally, including outside the UK
It's also beneficial if you have:
Experience with the inspection and assessment of existing structures, ideally including structural monitoring or NDT
Experience in a client-facing role
Interest in new technology, hardware, and applied R&D
What makes working at GScan unique?
🌍 An opportunity to change the world & shape industry standards. Work with real global innovation and technological breakthroughs where a significant amount of decisions have not been made yet. Your work will influence new norms in infrastructure safety, maintenance, and digital modelling.
💡 Solve complex technical challenges. Collaborate with our Civil Engineering team, physicists, hardware engineers, and project and data scientists to refine how scanning is applied in real projects.
💼 Work together with industry leaders. With a strong interest in our cutting-edge technology, you will have the opportunity to talk with companies like Kiwa, Drees&Sommer, Implenia, Strabag, TÜV SÜD, working on high-profile projects that shape the future of infrastructure inspection and maintenance.
💥 Create real impact. Help stakeholders of built world management to prevent failure, reduce costs, and dramatically cut CO₂ emissions.
🔩 Go beyond conventional NDT. Apply your civil engineering expertise with cutting-edge scanning that reveals what others can't see.
🤝 Grow with purpose. Join a mission-driven deep tech start-up during an exciting early (yet not too early) stage. Our team has grown to 50+ talents, we have reached €1,5M annual revenue milestone (and growing rapidly!), successfully raised 6mln+ of investments (supported by 12mln+ in grants).
🔄End-to-end visibility. Unlike in siloed engineering roles, you'll be involved from concept to deployment — pre-sales, planning, field testing, and project delivery.
