Lead Structural Engineer – Bridge Construction & NDT (m/f/d) (Germany)
Apply now if you want to drive meaningful innovation in civil engineering!
Welcome to GScan 👋
We are an award-winning Deeptech company from Estonia, pioneering the future of non-destructive testing (NDT) and structural health monitoring. The muonFLUX© technology uses cosmic rays to "see" inside critical infrastructure—such as bridges and tunnels—detecting corrosion and hidden defects with unprecedented clarity.
Think of it as a "CT Scan" for the built world. Just as medical imaging uses X-rays to see inside the human body, GScan utilizes naturally occurring particles (muons) to penetrate meters of concrete and steel. This allows asset owners to make proactive, data-driven decisions to maintain safer and more sustainable infrastructure.
Our breakthrough technology is steadily gaining international traction, with deployments on 10 in-service bridges and assets across England, Wales, Scotland, the Netherlands, and Estonia. We have been recognised in the UK as the top emerging innovation in NDT.
Leading global engineering company, AtkinsRéalis, shared insights about muonFLUX© technology.

A message from our CEO, Marek Helm
"As the interest and demand for GScan’s technology rapidly grows in Germany and across Europe, we have made a strategic commitment. Following initial success and the start of our cooperation with BAM, we are now hiring our first technical expert in the country.
As our key engineering partner in Germany, you’ll lead projects from the first meeting to the final scan. Your contribution will help civil and structural engineers understand our innovative technology and see how it brings real value to their bridge projects.”
🚀 Your mission
Project Delivery with the highest quality: Ensure the successful execution of the first project with this breakthrough technology, particularly with key partners like BAM, BaST, etc, making sure we exceed the expectations of the Civil & Structural Engineers.
Spread the word in the civil engineering community in Germany: Be the public face to the market, educate and train our German civil engineering partners
Co-led the Product & Tech Development together with Rufus Foster (bridge engineer and Technical Director in UK). Provide field feedback and technical insights to help refine and develop GScan’s technology.
How We’ll Work Together?
You’ll join us in a remote-first setup, working comfortably from your home office anywhere in Germany. For technology deployments at bridge sites, you will travel to customer locations, field deployments, or industry events within theDACH region, although the majority of collaboration is conducted online.
Who will you be working with?
Reporting and Collaboration: You will partner with our Germany-based CEO Marek Helm and Andreas Schneider from the Business Development Team.
You will collaborate closely with Rufus Foster (Technical Director, Lead Bridge Engineer) and with Märt Mägi (CTO, Co-founder), Madis Kiisk (R&D Lead, Co-founder), Jüri Saarma (COO) and Andres Nurme (Global Deployment Manager).
Interdisciplinary Exposure: As you advance our technology, you will have the chance to collaborate with an interdisciplinary group of experts across the company, including civil engineers, particle physicists, electronics and hardware engineers, ML/AI specialists, and software developers.
✅ Key responsibilities
Have deep understanding of the needs of the civil engineers and German partner ecosystem
As CE, evaluate feasibility of Muon Tomography to specific structures. Support our customer/bid teams by taking civil engineering lead in understanding the structures and problem statements, deployment plans, contribute to proposal review and writing. .
Co-lead product development from CE perspective. Translate needs and experience into insights for product roadmap and requirements.
Act as Civil Engineering subject matter expert during deployment projects in the DACH region.
Be the public CE face to the DACH market, giving technical presentations at conferences, authoring articles and white papers, and representing GScan at key industry events.
Collaborate with the sales team to develop customer specific solutions (project plans, feasibility, ROI).
Work closely with in-house teams and external partners.
Ensure compliance with DE guidelines for civil infrastructure inspections and maintenance.
✅ What are we looking for?
Background as a Civil or Structural Engineer with a strong track record in bridge-focused projects.
5-10 years in civil engineering or structural assessment roles.
Strong understanding of non-destructive testing or monitoring methodologies and industry standards.
Experience contributing to or managing complex, interdisciplinary projects.
Confident in client-facing roles, technical sales, and stakeholder communication.
Familiarity with CAD, 3D modelling, or structural analysis software.
Willingness to travel within the DACH region and Europe for site visits, customer meetings, and events.
Native level German and fluency in English are minimum requirements, having international experience is an advantage.
We also consider beneficial:
Strong professional network within the German Civil Engineering community to accelerate our market entry and growth
Broader exposure to buildings, geotechnical structures (e.g., tunnels, mining), or oil & gas infrastructure
International experience. The role focuses on the DACH market, but in the future you will also have the opportunity to consult projects in countries such as the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Japan, and more.
What makes working at GScan unique?
🌍 An opportunity to change the world & shape industry standards. Work with real global innovation and technological breakthroughs where a significant amount of decisions have not been made yet. Your work will influence new norms in infrastructure safety, maintenance, and digital modelling.
💡 Solve complex technical challenges. Collaborate with our Civil Engineering team, physicists, hardware engineers, and project and data scientists to refine how scanning is applied in real projects.
💼 Work together with industry leaders. With a strong interest in our cutting-edge technology, you will have the opportunity to talk with companies like Kiwa, Drees&Sommer, Implenia, Strabag, TÜV SÜD, working on high-profile projects that shape the future of infrastructure inspection and maintenance.
💥 Create real impact. Help stakeholders of built world management to prevent failure, reduce costs, and dramatically cut CO₂ emissions.
🔩 Go beyond conventional NDT. Apply your civil engineering expertise with cutting-edge scanning that reveals what others can't see.
🤝 Grow with purpose. Join a mission-driven deep tech start-up during an exciting early (yet not too early) stage. Our team has grown to 50+ talents, we have reached €1,5M annual revenue milestone (and growing rapidly!), successfully raised 6mln+ of investments (supported by 12mln+ in grants).
🔄End-to-end visibility. Unlike in siloed engineering roles, you'll be involved from concept to deployment — pre-sales, planning, field testing, and project delivery.
Our recent progress in Germany
We have completed the first validation with BAM - Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing in Germany, a government organisation who validates new NDT technologies. The results exceeded all expectations and were published in Bauingenieur.
Please see the BAM Report attached. We are also in discussions with Autobahn, Deutsche Bahn, and regions (Bavaria, Hessen, Nordrhein-Westfalen) to start deploying our technology to the first bridges in Germany.
We will do our first bridge scan in Germany in Q1 2026 and in Switzerland in 2026.
GScan was featured in the German ALLPLAN civil engineering blog.
We have strong collaboration with the TUM Venture Labs Built Environment ecosystem.
